Summarizing the Process

Angie’s situation is an excellent example of how a local school system’s capacity for serving a child with complex issues was enhanced through the use of technology. The technology, Picture E Communication System, was used to facilitate Angie’s skills in communicating.

However, the ability of the teachers and family to use this technology effectively could only be done through the use of interactive video conferencing with the University-based specialists in developmentally appropriate treatment for children with autism.

The local service providers needed this experts advice, support on an on-going basis to assist Angie in the use of the PECS and to shape her behavior using positive, functional behavior management strategies.
